Düsseldorf Becomes the 19th Member of the UNBROKEN Cities Network
The German city of Düsseldorf has officially joined the international UNBROKEN Cities Network, becoming its 19th member. The corresponding memorandum was signed during an official visit by a Lviv delegation, led by Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, to Düsseldorf on 25–26 June.
“UNBROKEN Cities is a community of cities united by humanity, knowledge exchange, and mutual support. I am grateful to Düsseldorf for its trust, partnership, and willingness to work together on developing modern rehabilitation systems, supporting our veterans, and helping all Ukrainians affected by the war,” said Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.
German partners, in turn, have highlighted the resilience of Ukrainian cities and expressed a strong interest in learning from their experience.
“Over the past years, Ukraine has demonstrated remarkable strength and capacity to act under extraordinarily difficult circumstances. Cities such as Lviv show every day how municipal institutions can continue functioning during crises and provide essential services to their residents. We are committed to continuing our support for our Ukrainian partners while also learning from their experience in crisis management, critical infrastructure protection, and building resilient cities,” emphasized Düsseldorf Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller.
During the visit, the Lviv delegation held a series of strategic meetings with representatives of Düsseldorf’s municipal government, healthcare institutions, and public utilities. Particular attention was given to the development of the UNBROKEN ecosystem, modern approaches to outpatient rehabilitation, mental health services, social housing, and opportunities to attract international investment and Japanese businesses to Ukraine’s recovery.
Among the key outcomes of the visit were agreements to establish cooperation between healthcare institutions in Lviv and Düsseldorf, organize professional exchanges and training opportunities for Ukrainian specialists, explore Düsseldorf’s experience in municipal housing, and develop partnerships with Japanese companies through one of Europe’s largest Japanese business communities.
